Move over, Mindy Kaling! Amy Schumer is the latest funny-woman to land a book deal, and she’s going to earn plenty of cash for her trouble. The folks at Entertainment Tonight were the first to confirm the new deal.
Amy Schumer is best known for her Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer and the film Trainwreck, which she wrote and starred in. Schumer’s smart comedy has a feminist bent, something that her new book will reportedly explore. It’s been a big week already for Schumer, who won an Emmy for her comedy series (check out her acceptance speech below.)
According to reports, the new book will be an essay collection. Schumer is expected to write about her career, family, and childhood. Feminism and comedy will, of course, come into play.
Female comedians have been taking the publishing world by storm over the past few years. The trend started with comic memoirs (like Tina Fey’s Bossypants), but essay collections like Schumer’s upcoming effort have been all the rage lately. Mindy Kaling’s Why Not Me? has met with great success, and Anna Kendrick is working on a similar project.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Schumer has already agreed to a publisher, though it’s not yet clear which publishing house made the winning bid. Schumer’s advance reportedly totals between $8 and $10 million dollars.
