Queer indie pop duo Tegan and Sara released the cover artwork for their upcoming memoir, High School (Simon & Schuster) on Twitter today. The identical twins’ memoir, due to be published in the fall of 2019, will take a retrospective look at their adolescence and experiences as queer teenagers on the verge of discovering their artistic potential.
The memoir “tangles itself up in the parallel and discordant memories of two sisters growing up down the hall from one another,” according to Tegan and Sara’s website — which also includes endorsements from their mother and best friend, as any homemade and heartfelt work should.
“Writing High School gives us the opportunity to tell the intricate stories that shaped our relationship as sisters, musicians, and queer girls,” Tegan and Sara said, according to Billboard.
The twins, originally from Alberta, Canada, have released eight albums since 1999, and toured with such artists as Weezer, Jack Johnson, and The Killers; in 2014, Tegan and Sara opened for Lady Gaga as part of the latter’s Artpop tour. Both are LGBTQ activists and advocates with massive social media followings; they have collaborated together and separately with dozens of major artists, and made appearances (musical and otherwise) across TV, film, and video games.
