‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off Series ‘The Long Night’ Filming in October

Fans of the epic fantasy series who are mourning the news that the final season just wrapped up filming can rest easy, as Deadline is reporting that a prequel pilot greenlit in June is planned to start filming this October.

With a working title of The Long Night, don’t expect to see any fan favorites like Arya Stark or Jon Snow. Set thousands of years before the events of the main series, the new show will explore Game of Thrones’s sprawling mythical backstory. HBO describes the new series as focusing on the legendary figures from the Age of Heroes and the secret histories of Westeros and Essos as the world enters its darkest hour.

While only a pilot has been ordered so far, the team behind the new series includes Jane Goldman (screenwriter of Kingsman, Kick-Ass, and Stardust) and original A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin. If the pilot is anywhere near as well received as the original series, expect many more adventures with the ancestors of the characters we have all come to know and love, or love to hate.
