Frank Sinatra Traveled With a Golden Uzi According to New Biography

Eliot Weisman was a member of Frank Sinatra’s entourage from 1975 until the crooner’s death in 1998. In his new Sinatra biography “The Way It Was: My Life With Frank Sinatra,” Weisman says Sinatra carried a golden Uzi with him everywhere he traveled. The Uzi was a gift from Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

Weisman recounts a time the golden Uzi almost landed Sinatra and his entourage in hot water. They landed on Sinatra’s private plane in Verona, Italy. When a customs agent boarded, Sinatra’s crew was nervous. The golden Uzi was hidden in the plane’s floor. Luckily, though, the customs agent simply snapped a picture with Ol’ Blue Eyes and moved along.

Sinatra was rumored to rub shoulders with some shady characters in the mob. It would certainly be no surprise if he carried a gun with him, but carrying a golden Uzi seems a bit excessive.

“The Way It Was: My Life with Frank Sinatra” comes out October 24. You can pre-order it here.
