First ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer Marks End of Universe, Beginning of Beards

If you happen to see the internet today, give it a pat on the back. The first Avengers: Infinity War trailer just dropped and you won’t be able to type anything beginning with the letter “a” without it autocompleting to Avengers. Be part of today’s youth and watch the trailer here.

Let this be your warning: a bunch of nerdy trailer recap will follow this point. Oh, and spoilers for every Marvel movie that has been released, including Thor: Ragnarok. That’s your caution sign.

The first ten seconds of the trailer contain immediate surprises. First, there’s hearing Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury speak for the first time since 2014’s The Winter Soldier. Then there’s an image of Bruce Banner, following his seemingly permanent transformation into the Hulk in Ragnarok. We also see Vision in human/Paul Bettany form, which is interesting. Spider-Man too, holy crap, has some serious looking armor, looking suspiciously close to the armor Tony Stark offered him at the end of Homecoming.

Then Thanos. He’s been teased for a full five years, but just in little glimpses. Josh Brolin fully brings the character to life. He looks badass and nasty, which is appropriate. You can see him probably killing Spider-Man and also popping in one of the Infinity Stones, which looks like the Mind Stone, which I know because I have nothing to do Saturday nights. Which reminds me, if you’re looking to read up on the Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos before the movie, check out Jim Starlin’s classic The Infinity Gauntlet and Jonathan Hickman’s 2013 Infinity run.

Guardians appear too, which is neat. Black Widow has blonde hair now. Captain America has a beard. Iron Man wears his Hulkbuster armor. It just looks bonkers. Avengers: Infinity War comes out May 4, 2018.
