Early this morning, Marvel Studios dropped their second and final trailer for the upcoming film Eternals. The movie is set to release on November 5th. Chloe Zhao is directing what many are establishing as “Marvel’s most ambitious film yet,” reports Variety. The talented cast includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridoff, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, and Don Lee.
According to Variety, the Eternals are an “immortal alien race…who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years and possess different powers and abilities, including super strength and the ability to fly.” Among the multiple action-packed scenes we see in the new trailer, we are presented with the Eternals attempting to “emerge after centuries living apart in order to help humans.” The Hollywood Reporter adds that the Eternals’ enemies are the Deviants, “an evil race of monstrous creatures” led by a general named Kro. Following the catastrophic events that ensued after Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Eternals must band together to save Earth.
The Hollywood Reporter and Variety propose that one of the key questions the film will likely answer is asked by the human Dane Whitman, the “Black Knight” (Harington). Whitman inquires why the Eternals chose not to intervene with Thanos and “the snap” that completely eradicated millions of human lives before. The powerful Eternal Sersi responds, “We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved.”
Chloe Zhao is widely recognized for her “understated features and quiet storylines,” two characteristics that only add to the excitement of Marvel fans who can’t wait to see Eternals, reports Collider. Although other indie filmmakers have worked for Marvel before, Zhao’s unique perspective and insight will surely create a refreshing and thrilling experience for longtime Marvel fans or for those who are new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
