Emma Watson’s Book Club Selects Exciting New Read!

It’s settled! Emma Watson and her bi-monthly book club will be reading  Hunger Makes me a Modern Girl: the latest memoir from Portlandia star and Sleater Kinney front-woman, Carrie Brownstein. (and another entry to the ‘girl’ title trend

The book pulled through with 763 votes, beating out such titles as Mom and Me and Mom by Maya Angelou, and Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

That’s some lofty company for the 41 year old powerhouse, but all her stature is well earned. Brownstein became a household name after forging the creative partnership of a lifetime with Portlandia co-star, and co-creator, Fred Armisen. The two have gone on to crank out 6 critically acclaimed seasons, repute with zany characters and biting critique of hipster culture.

She also happens to be the lead singer/guitarist of one of the foremost punk acts of the past decade, Sleater Kinney. It’s safe to say that whatever project Brownstein is invested in, she is invested 100%. She’s a natural comedic actor on Portlandia, but when you see her wailing and shredding on stage, you’d think she was born to play.

Naturally, the memoir explores these two sides of Carrie, with particular emphasis on life on the road. (A la Girl in a Band, by Kim Gordon, her punk rock compatriot.)

Emma has mentioned in the group’s description that she hopes to get the author of selected books in for an interview whenever possible. I think it’s safe to say we would all like to see a conversation between these two fantastic feminists.

Members will surely have plenty to talk about with this one. This also marks the first democratic election of a book in the project’s history! Here’s to hoping it bears good results. So what are you waiting for? Join Emma and her 135,000 plus members, and get reading!
