Belle is everything

Emma Watson Honored with First Gender Neutral Award

This year the MTV movie and television awards gave a special award, for the first time ever. Instead of having two separate awards, one for Best Actress and another for Best Actor, they combined them into one category – making it a gender-neutral award. The winner was stacked up against actors Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy, but she was truly the belle of the ball…

Congratulations Emma Watson!

Emma won for her role as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, which also won the Movie of the Year award. Emma was grateful to win the honor, and said that to her it means that “acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories.”

In her speech she went on to say what it meant to play our favorite bookworm, Belle:

“I think I’m being given this award because of who Belle is and what she represents. The villagers in our fairytale wanted to make Belle believe the world was smaller than the way that she saw it, with fewer opportunities for her. I love playing someone who didn’t listen to any of that.”

Well said, Emma!
