A new film from IFC brings the story of Mary Shelley, author of famed Frankenstein, to life with a feminist twist. Mary Shelley, played by Elle Fanning, famously wrote Frankenstein as a dare at a party, with the idea behind the novel coming to her in a dream.

The film follows Mary Shelley through her late teens during which time she meets and falls in love with poet Percy Shelley, and charts the events which led her to write the pivotal gothic novel.
The film, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, will be the first feature-length film from director Haifaa al-Mansour, a Saudi Arabian female director, one of the first from her country, where cinemas are not allowed.
