Elizabeth Banks Wants to Direct Red Queen Adaptation

Victoria Aveyard’s YA novel Red Queen is in the works to hit the big screen, and actor/director Elizabeth Banks wants in on the action. The story, which has been noted for its tones resembling everything from The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones to X-Men and Cinderella, is about a world whose social classes are based on blood color.

While regular people simply have red blood, elites have silver blood and supernatural abilities. When a red-blooded citizen is discovered to have special abilities thought to only be possessed by the elite, royalty creates a contrived past to keep the incident under wraps and make sure society stays in order. Suddenly a red-blooded girl is taken into the silver-blooded way of life, thus interfering with her aid to a red rebellion.

Elizabeth Banks, currently in negotiations to helm the Universal project, is hoping to join the project alongside producers Pouya Shahbazian, Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, and JC Spink.  Gennifer Hutchinson, “Breaking Bad” writer, wrote the movie’s screenplay, and Christopher Cosmos is set to co-produce.

Banks has both acted and produced major grossing films that have seen worldwide success, and fans of the book wait eagerly to find out if she’ll be able to take on this project as well.
