Are you ready to navigate some nostrils? We certainly hope so, because Ms. Frizzle is set to return better than ever in an upcoming live-action version of The Magic School Bus. Produced by Elizabeth Banks and developed by Scholastic Entertainment, the film will be based on the book series and animated cartoon that has enhanced the lives of many since childhood.
Banks (having previously starred in The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect) will also portray The Frizz herself in the adaptation.
Published in the 80s, The Magic School Bus series really flourished during its television debut in 1994. Voiced by Lily Tomlin, Ms. Frizzle colored the imaginations of children everywhere as she taught us about biology and space. The Frizz has even managed to capture the excitement of current generations with a sequel that aired on Netflix in 2017 (The Magic School Bus Rides Again), starring Kate McKinnon of Saturday Night Live.
Scholastic Entertainment president, Iole Lucchese, voiced her enthusiasm for the film.
We are delighted to bring to life the iconic Ms. Frizzle and her zest for knowledge and adventure in a fresh new way that inspires the next generation of kids to explore science and supports the dedicated teachers who help make science real and accessible for young learners every day. We’re also extremely excited to be working with such top-tier partners as Elizabeth Banks, Marc Platt Productions, Brownstone Productions, Universal Pictures, and all of the amazing talent assembled for this noteworthy feature film.
We can’t wait to see what adventures The Frizz will take on next. To the bus!
