The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here! Rainbow Rowell’s bestselling novel, Eleanor and Park, is finally in the works to become a movie. In the beginning, the film rights were acquired by Dreamworks, but then they were given back to Rowell. Now, it is being produced by Picturestart and Plan B Entertainment. They’ve had the rights to this book since last year and are now making strides to move forward with the project.

The book tells the story of two teens, Eleanor and Park, who form a friendship/relationship. Eleanor comes from a chaotic family and wears mismatched clothes, along with her bright red curly hair. While Park sits at the back of the bus with his black t-shirts, invisible to the world, but not to Eleanor. The two form a bond over mixtapes, and many late-night conversations turn into love. It’s such a sweet story, and it’s about time the movie is becoming a reality. According to Rowell, one of the producers, Christina Oh, went to Omaha to see where Eleanor and Park live, and to also work with her on the script. Now, Rowell knows her book is in the right hands.
This movie is going to be so epic! Fans around the world are thrilled with the news. Rowell posted the news to her Instagram on Sunday night, July 5. The casting process is set to begin next week, and on a Bookcon panel once, Rowell stated how Eleanor and Park are going to be two unknown actors, they aren’t going to be actors you’ve seen before. I’m sure whoever they cast will be great.
In the meantime, you can read the novel, right here.
