The next installment of the Star Wars TV franchise is almost here. The success of Disney’s The Mandalorian has launched a new age of Star Wars content, the likes of which our galaxy hasn’t seen since a more civilized age (i.e. the originals). The recent projects fans flock to aren’t at the movie theaters, but can be thoroughly enjoyed from the comfort of your home. Disney decided last year during the second season of The Mandalorian to expand the live-action television universe into what seems to have a striking similarity to the MCU film universe. Beloved characters from different stories were introduced in Din Djarin’s journey for more than fan service. Characters like Ahsoka Tano, and today’s subject Boba Fett, are getting their own respective series.

Disney recently dropped the trailer for The Book of Boba Fett less than two months before the December premiere. The trailer details Boba’s, and his partner Fennec Shand’s exploits, in the galaxy’s criminal underworld just as they took over Jabba’s cartel at the end of The Mandalorian’s second season finale. As far as the season’s premise is concerned, and from what can be gathered from this short trailer, is that Boba is establishing a criminal underworld to be ruled with respect and honor, as opposed to the fear-based rule of Jabba’s cartel. Details are fairly sparse but the trailer shows that the crime bosses of the galaxy far, far away don’t take kindly to Fett’s proposal nor his mob boss status as a usurper. From then on it’s a battle for the territories of the outer rim.

Some fans’ concern of the series mostly revolves around this idea that this series will be too similar to The Mandalorian in style and action which is seemingly the case unless you look into the words of Robert Rodriguez, director of Boba’s guest episode of season two. Robert described Din Djarin as the gunslinger of the star wars universe therefore making Fett’s style one to one would be redundant. Instead, Rodriguez cleverly decided to make Fett more of a Conan the Barbarian in character and combat. Judging from the trailer it’s a sure bet that Fett and Shand will be much more diligently brutal than their more civilized silver counterpart giving The Book of Boba Fett its own distinct part of the galaxy we get to frolic in.

Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen will reprise their roles with all other casting being kept secret until release much like the previous Star Wars Disney+ content. With the promise of a deep exploration of Fett’s past between Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian and a side of the franchise that isn’t talked about enough, the organized crime of Star Wars The Book of Boba Fett will surely jump the franchise into hyperdrive come December 29th, 2021.
