Disney has just dropped the first trailer for one of our most anticipated literary adaptations in 2018, “A Wrinkle in Time.” It. Is. Glorious!
The movie stars ’12 Years A Slave” star Storm Reid as Meg, a 12-year-old girl whose father, a scientist, disappeared years earlier. Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine also star in the movie.
The film is directed by Ava Duvernay, the first African American woman to direct a live action feature with a budget over $100 million. A huge milestone. This triumph is further reflected in the diverse cast. Duvernay says she wanted people that accurately depicted “the real world.” Reese Witherspoon, who love L’Engle’s book as a child, said of Duvernay, “I just thought it was so magical that Ava chose to put her beautiful direction toward this material. She sees the whole world and the beauty of the world.”
The trailer, set to a dreamy cover of Eurythmic’s song Sweet Dreams, brings us on a magical journey through time and space. It was enough to give us chills with its gorgeous sets and mesmerizing costumes.
