Did You Notice the Deathly Hallows Nod in the ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Trailer?

It’s here! The teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald has arrived. Granted, it’s only twenty-three seconds long, but that means even more theorizing and reading-into for die-hard fans. So let’s do just that!

First of all, the pattern in the smoke is one hundred percent the Deathly Hallows symbol. No question in my mind.

In addition to this, the ‘i’ in the word ‘Crimes’ would appear to be the Elder Wand, and could easily match up with the ‘g’ and the ‘a’ of Grindelwald to form the iconic triangular symbol.

Gellert is no stranger to the Deathly Hallows. We know that he and Albus Dumbledore intended to bring the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak together in their youth. In the upcoming film, Dumbledore and Grindelwald will be depicted as teenagers so it seems likely that their search for the Deathly Hallows will be featured!

The film has attracted some negative attention from casting Johnny Depp in the lead role, specifically after Amber Heard’s allegations of domestic violence last year, prompting heated debate between critics of the decision and staunch Depp-fenders, who are going off with the weird hashtag #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald… Make of that what you will.
