‘Daily Show’ Star Fights For Muslim Representation

Prominent muslim comedians and public intellectuals have just launched a new initiative aimed at expanding what PEN America refers to as the “narrow representations” of America’s muslim population.

The project is entitled “The ‘M’ Word”, and it is spearheaded by the new senior Daily Show correspondent, Hasan Minhaj.

The event kicks off in New York City, at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan. The title of that show will be “Muslim Comedians on the Right to Joke.” It will feature comedians Mo Amer and Negin Farsad.

While the first show prominently features comedians, future performances will focus more on fiction and theater coming from the American Muslim community. Other affiliates with the event include popular Theologian Reza Aslan, and renowned novelist Zia Haider Rahman
