Japanese publisher Shueisha just announced a new series by Karuho Shiina, the mangaka for Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You. Titled Toppū to Beat (Blast of Wind and Beat), the manga will be Shiina’s first in 18 years. It’ll be featured on the April cover of Shueisha’s shōjo magazine, Bessatsu Margaret, and will receive a colored opening page in its debut chapter. Toppū to Beat is set to launch on March 13th.

A New Coming-Of-Age Series

Set in a seaside town in Hokkaido, Toppū to Beat is about a girl named Nike who reunites with her schoolmate Nemo, a boy who barely shows his face in class. The coming-of-age will follow Nike on a journey of self-discovery after this chance encounter.

First Work Since Kimi ni Todoke

Creator Karuho Shiina’s previous work was the popular teen romance Kimi ni Todoke, which ran in Bessatsu Margaret from 2006 to November 2017. The manga has been a top-seller in Japan, receiving a spin-off sequel in April 2018. Kimi ni Todoke Bangaihen: Unmei no Hito — Kimi ni Todoke Spinoff: Soulmate — ended in May 2022 and was compiled into three volumes.
