“I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti,” is a quote from Silence of the Lambs, and one we won’t be forgetting anytime soon. This popular book-turned-movie has been spun into multiple television spin-offs and character-based sequels, making it a staple of American pop culture. And now, the creator of Hannibal Lecter, Thomas Harris, has just announced he will be publishing a new book, the first in thirteen years!

His last book (published in 2006) was an installment in a two-part Hannibal Lecter series, but according to the terms of his book deal, this new novel does not need to feature Dr. Lecter. It has been confirmed that Harris’s upcoming 2019 novel is a “standalone”, and was announced at Frankfurt Book Fair by its publisher, William Heinemann. The only other instance in which Harris has not written about Lecter was for his debut thriller novel Black Sunday in 1972, a story about a terrorist attack during a Superbowl game.
The Guardian reports that “In 2007, [Harris’s] agent Mort Janklow told Entertainment Weekly: ‘I have no idea what Tom’s next book will be. It may not involve the Hannibal character at all. His deal does not require that. He is an important American novelist and writes what he chooses, when he chooses.'”
Harris hasn’t been in the public eye for a long time, but with his novel being released May 12th, 2019, he’ll have to make a reappearance! I can’t wait to read what his brilliant mind has come up with!
