This fall, we’ll be treated to a new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. But you don’t have to wait that long to get a glimpse of the book’s cover – check it out below!
The cover shows Harry Potter joining some of the Weasley boys in the Weasley family’s magical flying Ford Anglia. They’re headed towards the Burrow, the Weasley’s home, and a Gryffindor scarf can be seen flying out of the window.
The new edition will be illustrated by Jim Kay, who was also responsible for the pictures in last year’s illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. On that book’s cover, Kay focused on the Hogwarts Express. Depicting the flying car on the second volume’s cover keeps wizarding transportation (and Harry’s method of getting to Hogwarts) as the theme.
Kay’s illustrations don’t rely on older illustrations or on the Harry Potter movie universe, so he’s bringing a unique new perspective to the text. The new editions have earned a lot of fans – including one J.K. Rowling. GalleyCat reports that Rowling said Jim Kay’s art “moved [her] profoundly.” “I love his interpretation of Harry Potter’s world,” Rowling said, “and feel honored and grateful that he has lent his talents to it.”
The new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will be released on October 4, 2016.
