Hip Hip Hooray for Fiona: the famous baby hippo whose journey has captured the hearts of the nation is getting her own book!
Cincinnati Zoo’s beloved baby hippo will be the focus of a book written by the zoo’s director Thane Maynard.
Fiona was six weeks premature and only 29 pounds when she was born, and is therefore the smallest hippo ever known to survive. She required twenty-four hour care in her first months, including bottle feeding and oxygen tubes.

The book, ‘Saving Fiona: Science, Social Media and the Story of a Baby Hippo,’ will contain with color photos of Fiona and will be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, who have stated:
“Behind-the-scenes photographs and exclusive interviews with the zoo staff will give readers an intimate look at the inner workings of a zoo, and the relationships the caregivers have with the animals that live there.”
The book comes out January 22nd 2019, two days before Fiona’s second birthday. We can’t wait to get our hands on this book and have our hearts melted by baby Fiona’s incredible journey.
