Chloe Grace Moretz Takes to the Seas in Little Mermaid Movie

Hans Christian Andersen‘s classic tale The Little Mermaid has been adapted and reimagined many times over the years, most notably being the 1989 Disney animated movie. The latest version of the story is a live action film by Working Title and Universal. While little is known about the film, it’s now making a splash with movie lovers because of its new star: Teen actor Chloe Grace Moretz.

Moretz is no stranger to movie adaptations of books, having played the title role in the 2013 adaptation of Stephen King‘s Carrie. She also played the lead in If I Stay, a film based on the YA novel of the same name by Gayle Foreman. With experience in dark, supernatural fiction, Moretz seems like a very qualified pick to play the Little Mermaid (not called Ariel in the original story), especially if the narrative is faithful to the source material.

The only other person announced to be working on the project is screenwriter Richard Curtis, who audiences will likely know from his work on holiday rom-com Love Actually. While this might lead you to believe The Little Mermaid adaptation will not be true to the fairy tale’s dark roots, there is evidence to the contrary: Curtis’ most recent script was the adventure thriller Trash about street teenagers in Brazil.

Are you excited for what these two will bring to life, or do you think that the idea of a live action Little Mermaid is better left at the bottom of the ocean? Let us know your thoughts.
