Bruce Willis’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, just announced she will be releasing a book detailing what it is like to be in the position of caretaking for a loved one with dementia. After Bruce Willis retired from his talented acting career, the last few years have been spent with his family and loved ones. In March 2022, the family announced that he was first diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder, which caused him to retire from acting around the same time. Now, Emma Willis plans to tell her story of what it’s been like since then.

How Has Bruce Willis’ Condition Changed?

After his original diagnosis in 2022 of aphasia, the condition progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTB) in February 2023, which can cause personality and behavioral changes. FTB is a disease that can impact any of the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for the condition, however, Willis’ family is still in pursuit of a remedy.

In previous statements, they mentioned a hope that added media attention would bring more focus to the condition, and allow more research be given to it. Emma Willis’ book may help draw more attention to FTB, as well as help other caregivers who are trying to assist family members.

What Is Emma Willis’ Book?

Emma Willis’ book on caregiving remains untitled. However, it does have a preannounced release date sometime in 2025. She has made a few statements about what she hopes readers will take away from reading her book.

“Identifying the right resources to educate and enlighten myself has been powerful and has allowed me the space to continue to move forward in the most positive way so that I can be the best mother, wife, daughter, friend and care partner.”

Throughout her time as a caregiver for her husband, she has had many opportunities to learn and better understand how to adapt to such a complicated job. Now, she wants to take what she has learned and share it with everyone else, so they too can care for their loved ones should they have health complications.

The book will be published through Maria Shriver’s publishing imprint, the Open Field. The Open Field launched in 2021 as a partner to Penguin Life. The imprint is determined to publish books that help move humanity forward, and Emma Willis’ book perfectly encapsulates the type of story they wish to promote.

Both Maria Shriver and Emma Willis have spoken positively about the deal, and seem excited to work together. While the publishing date may be a while away still, there’s a lot to look forward to considering such a thoughtful book that could have a very positive impact on families where a member requires extra care.

Emma Willis has spoken openly previously about what it is like to care for someone with a condition like FTB. It’s likely her book will allow other caregivers to feel less alone in their struggles, and be more comfortable with caring for their loved ones.
