Bridgerton fans were heartbroken to find out that breakout star Regé-Jean Page would not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings in season two of the hit Netflix drama. Now, his former leading lady, Phoebe Dynevor, is opening up on how Daphne’s story will be different moving forward without her Duke.

The second season of Bridgerton, which is now currently in production, will be based off the second book in Julia Quinn’s romance series, The Viscount Who Loved Me. That book chronicles Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) love story with Kate Sheffield (who is now Kate Sharma in the Netflix series). Fans of the books were probably anticipating Page’s exit as both he and Dynevor’s characters are now appearing in supporting roles with Page’s Duke showing up even less than Daphne. In an interview with The Wrap, Dynevor opened up about her new role in the series now that her character’s eldest brother is the one in the spotlight.

“It’s definitely different. And I’ve said it before, but I think fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling’s journey. And it might be a little bit more of a – not shock, but like a surprise for the fans that love Daphne and Simon’s story so much. But I think that’s honestly the joy of the show in the long-term, getting to see these different love stories play out.”

With the second season focusing on Anthony and Kate (Ashley Simone), the already confirmed seasons three and four will each switch focus again to different Bridgerton siblings, Benedict and Colin, respectively, if the books are any indication. Dynevor, for one, is excited by this as she believes “every season is just going to be really different and magical in its own way.”

As far as Daphne’s storyline goes, rest assured Daphne and Simon fans, as Dynevor says the Duke will still be a part of her life, he just won’t be appearing on screen. She also provided an update on if fans will see Daphne adjust to her new role as a mother since the first season ended with her giving birth to a baby boy.

“I think he’ll definitely be referred to a lot. I think we’ll see the baby. And we’ll just focus more on her relationship with the Bridgerton family.”
