Ashley, known for her role in another Netflix series Sex Education, will play Kate Sharma (named Kate Sheffield in the books). In the announcement, Netflix describes Kate as “a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools – Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”

The production team also revealed that Kate and her family will be of Indian descent keeping with the series intent to portray a racially diverse Regency era London. Ashely and Bailey will succeed season 1 stars Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page (who just announced SNL hosting duties!) as the romantic leads for the new season.

The second season of the romantic drama will chronicle the events of the second book in the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, The Viscount Who Loved Me. The book (and now the show) will follow the eldest Bridgerton siblings’ search for a suitable match. At the end of the first season, Anthony made clear of his intention to find a wife, though he was determined that it will be loveless marriage. Let’s see how that works out for him.

Production of the second season is expected to begin in the spring though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
