Why did you start your Bookstagram?
I started my bookstagram account in June 2018, I was on medical leave at home after a surgical procedure and was avidly reading. I stumbled upon a photo on Instagram of a beautiful setup, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there were other people out there that also enjoyed the same books as me and had exclusive accounts just for featuring and talking about the books we love. That moment I decided I wanted to create my account.
Where are you from?
I am Brazilian, however, I have lived in various countries throughout my life due to my father’s career. I have lived in Canada, Sweden, Scotland, and now Belgium. This time I am staying in Belgium for good.
What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?
I use my Instagram as my outlet to express myself and my love not only for books but also to cozy and dreamy photography. I try to capture moments in a reader’s life that pass a sense of calmness and peacefulness, as an encouragement to others to want to be part of this bookish community.
Fun fact about you:
I have a really unusual funny laugh, it definitely earns me some glances when I laugh publicly. I also love to crochet, to decorate and organize my house, to go out to restaurants and travel!
So many! I will list some that I have been adoring lately: @ve_xo, @giota_the_reader, @asthebookends, @_ckarys, @_mkarys, @shaked_reads, @kimcarlika, @canxdancexreads.
Favorite books and authors:
Fantasy is my favorite genre. I read mostly YA however I’ve been branching out more to NA books as well. My favorite authors are Sarah J. Maas, Jay Kristoff, Leigh Bardugo, Sabaa Tahir. My favorite books are Gemina from the illuminae files, A Court of Mist and Fury, and Shadow and Bone.
I must admit that I collect fictional crushes: The Darkling, Nik Malikov, Rhysand, Kaz Brekker, Lorcan Salvaterre, Damon Salvatore, Maven Calore, Elias Veturius.. Yes I have a thing for the dark and morally grey characters.
For this summer I have a very set TBR list to review for authors, however my actual TBR pile is huge (I think I have about 90 books unread on my bookshelf at the moment). Soon, I will be reading A Darker Shade of Magic series and Serpent & Dove.
What’s Your special approach to content?
The pastel soft tones of my photos are something that my account became known for in the last year, my goal is to bring out a soothing relaxing feeling with my photography. I have also been recently trying to incorporate more “in the moment” photos and less staged photos, you will frequently see me or my hands, my arms, my hair, in a photo so that the viewer can place themselves at that moment.
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
Same answer as before.
How often do you post?
I post every day for the last 2 years, sometimes twice a day if I have a tour or some other content I need to feature that day.
What does your Bookstagram mean to you?
As I mentioned bookstagram is not only a hobby to me, it is my form to express myself and my obsession with books, fantasy, decor, coziness, home-living, photography. I also love all the great friends I’ve met through bookstagram, some like @ve_xo and @undertheseacrochet I talk to every day.
Ever since I moved to Belgium I have few options for obtaining English books, I, therefore, use mostly amazon or book depository for my purchases. Finding bookstores that sell English YA hardcovers in Belgium is still on my to-do list :P
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?
Well my boyfriend would gladly supply me with all the books I want could ever ask for, he is the most caring and supporting person in the world.
Author to take a selfie with:
Jay Kristoff! He is just so hilarious, I love him!
Favorite book cover?
I am a total cover buyer, I have been guilty of purchasing beautiful books without reading the blurb (!!!). Current covers that I am obsessed with: Crescent City, Empire of Gold, The Deathless Girls.
Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:
Harry Potter (!!!!). I just feel so bad for not being part of the hype when it happened, and I can’t read it anymore since I’ve watched all the movies and know what happens.
When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer?
Actually I am just realizing it now when reading this question, wow! It’s crazy!
Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Throne of Glass, Grishaverse.
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Probably a lot of people have said this but don’t feel pressured to beat the algorithm. Everyone has days where their posts ‘flop’ and the reach is horrible, you shouldn’t let that get to you. Don’t let bookstagram become a chore, stressful or overwhelming. Remember that you joined to have fun, connect to other bookworms out there, and discover new books. Taking breaks is also important for mental health. Don’t let yourself get too immersed into the allure of obtaining free books and merchandise. Only join representative searches of shops that you truly like and support. Remember there are people behind those shops too.
