#Bookstagrammer of the Week: Readthewriteact

This week we are with @readthewriteact, who co-owns a small business and also runs an art page!

Book Culture Bookstagram

We are now back with Bookstagrammer of the Week, with @readthewriteact! She co-owns a small business with bookbookowl, runs an art page, and has a lot of range.

Why did you start your Bookstagram?

Initially I didn’t actually realise I was starting Bookstagram! I started a book blog and thought I should have an Instagram account to share my blog posts. Then, I fell down the Bookstagram rabbit hole and never looked back.

Where are you from?

I am from Newcastle, Australia

What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?

I have thought about this question a lot lately. I am not satisfied by simply taking a pretty picture anymore. I want to make people feel something when they see my posts. I consciously think of how I can make my content feel magical or humorous because I think I am a bit of both. Obviously it’s all about the books but my attempt is to try to recreate that magical or hilarious feeling books give us but through a visual. I want my account to have books at its core and to bring joy to my followers.

Fun Fact about you?

I can lick my own elbow. Is that classified as a fun fact?????

Favorite Bookstagrammers?

One of the best things about Bookstagram is that we are spoilt for choice! But some of my favourites that I recommend everyone check out are, @bookbookowl, @bookishbiologist, @sam_the_fangirl_, @bookrockbetty, @meredith.mara, @berrybookpages, @caffeineandcurses, @xenatine, @oasisgirlmd, @james_trevino, @darkfaerietales… the list could take up five pages. So many brilliant accounts!

Favorite Books and Authors?

Outlander is probably my all time favourite series. I also love A Curse So Dark and Lonely, The All Souls Trilogy, Crescent City, anything by Cassandra Clare, I am also still trash for Twilight and cannot wait for Midnight Sun. The Secret Garden is my favourite classic read and Jenny Colgan writes the most amazing chick lit that I cannot get enough of.

Fictional Crush?

I don’t know that I have a set fictional crush, more like an ultimate fictional couple being Jamie and Claire from Outlander. Yes Jamie is a flipping amazing man but I think that Claire is just as amazing. So, I guess I have a fictional couple crush instead.

TBR List?

Really? The list is long and forever growing. How about we go with what’s at the top of my physical pile right now? We have House of Dragons, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Truel1f3 by Jay Kristoff.

What’s Your Special Approach to Content?

I touched on this before my approach now is creating content that evokes emotions. I want my page to be a magical immersive experience but also funny at times because I like making a fool of myself.

Aesthetic / Instagram page theme?

I used to be very theme strong and was nervous to go outside of my bright colourful look. Now my theme is whatever I feel like taking photos of and posting. Late last year Bookstagram didn’t really feel like fun for me anymore. I was in a rut and felt like I had to create a certain type of content. Now I create content that I like and I keep in the back of my head my keywords, magical or humorous.

How often do you post?

Once or twice a day.

What does your Bookstagram mean to you?

Bookstagram is now a place where I can chat to some of my favourite people in the world. That have met so many wonderfully people through this community. I can for the books, I stayed for the people. I am also very lucky because now Bookstagram also means my workplace in a way. Without Bookstagram I wouldn’t have my book art store, or book tour business (@readthebooktours) that co-own with @bookbookowl. It has become so ingrained in my life that I cannot imagine what my life would look like without it and I don’t want to.

Favorite Bookstore?

Is everyone going to hate me if I say I prefer to shop online? Don’t get me wrong I love the idea of bookstores but for pure convenience shopping online is my go to. I must add I do like second hand bookshops because I have a thing for vintage editions.

Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?

If I had to pick a publisher I would go with Bloomsbury I think.

Author to take a selfie with?

To take a selfie with, Jay Kristoff for sure. He is the coolest and I could just tell all of my friend who don’t read that it is Dave Grohl.

Favorite book cover?

The Canterbury Classics edition of Jane Austen’s complete word. My word it is gorgeous.

Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t?

None. I have no issues with saying I haven’t read a book (I am looking at you Throne of Glass).

When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer?

When you asked me to be interviewed ????. Seriously though I don’t know that I will ever feel like I have made it. Have I made it? I guess I felt like I made it when I got my first review copy, but now I think I just keep on changing my goal posts.

Favorite fandoms?

I love all things vamps so any vamp based fandom is great. I am very much into Chain of Gold based merch at the moment.

Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers?

Don’t follow to unfollow, haha. Just be yourself, find what you like and post about it. I know we all look at the numbers but remember why you started Bookstagram in the first place. If you can, try to post consistently. If you can’t then don’t beat yourself up about it.
