#Bookstagrammer Of The Week: @piesnprose

It’s that time of the week again! Today’s Bookstagram feature is Sarah/@piesnprose. She’s got major sweater weather vibes with warm natural colors.

Why did you start your Bookstagram:

I started my Bookstagram sometime around early 2017. At the time, it was a mix of bookish and pastry photos (hence the handle lol)

Where are you from:

I’m from Queens, NYC! My heritage is Guyanese American.

What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world:

Cozy vibes and peace through minimalism. The Bookstagram community has a lot of props and intricate layouts, which is fantastic! But I wanted to show that less props and simple photos can be just as aesthetic or bookish.

Fun Fact about you:

I’ve experimented with all sorts of side projects, including a donut business, an entertainment news blog/app, an advice columnist, and even a music (singing covers) YouTube account!

Favorite Bookstagrammers:

Ari from @little.book.witch, Ela from @simplyela, Lauren from @lo.reads, Christina from @axghoststory, and Cici from @cicivford are some of my very favorites!

Favorite Books and Authors:

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston are a couple of my favorite books. Gillian Flynn, Toni Morrison, Stephen King, and Chuck Palahniuk are some of my favorite authors.

Fictional Crush:

I really don’t have one lol is that shocking?!

TBR List:

I can’t even keep up but right now I know Fledgling by Octavia Butler, IT by Stephen King, The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn are top on my list!

What’s Your Special Approach to Content:

Positivity and openness. I understand that people have different lives, perspectives, and personalities. I approach content in a way where no matter what background you come from, you can feel comfort and positivity when you visit my page.

Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:

Minimalist, warm, cozy, autumnal

How often do you post:

1x a day on my main feed, excluding weekends!

What does your Bookstagram mean to you:

It means a safe and creative space. It’s an outlet for me to create art and share that with others. It’s more than a hobby, it’s a career in the making. And I’m grateful there are people continuously supporting me on that journey.

Favorite Bookstore:

Astoria Bookshop in Queens! And of course, The Strand in Manhattan.

Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books:

Like, a friend, an author, a store? I’m going with a store, The Strand, because they are HUGE and have so many diverse books!

Author to take a selfie with:

Toni Morrison, if only it were possible!

Favorite book cover:

Circe by Madeline Miller (the UK edition).

Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:

I like to think I read all the classics, but I most certainly have not. I haven’t even read Frankenstein!

When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer:

When I started receiving messages from people saying I was a huge inspiration and I helped them through tough times. Having an impact on humans you’ve never met before… that’s when I felt it.

Favorite fandoms:

Oh gosh, I don’t know! I’m an OG Supernatural fan? Twin Peaks! Sherlock! Honestly, probably all the spooky fandoms.

Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:

I know it’s going to sound cheesy but… just start, don’t give up, and it’s okay to mess up along the way. These are the three hardest obstacles in the process. You’ll go through all and you’ll want to quit. But if you quit, there’s no opportunity to grow. Progress leads to success and you can’t get there if you give up. Good luck!
