Bookish Tweets To Ring In A Better New Year, Chapter One

Happy Holidays and New Year, Bookish Tweeters, old and new! 2020 was a crazy ride, right? Let’s just hope this year is a much better one… and what better way to kick off the new year than with a sack full of bookish tweets, courtesy of our good and witty lit-freak friend, SparkNotes?!

First off, allow me to apologize for being M.I.A. all throughout December, as I personally had to take care of finals and all that (you know, standard school biz), and after all my hard work throughout my long ride in college, I had finally graduated! (And yes, I will dub myself as a virtual graduate to have come straight outta 2020 alive and well-ish…)

Anyway, because I have missed so much on the bookish tweets side of things, I have decided to split up my first-ever tweets-piece of 2021 into two, for they will consist of tweets from all throughout the month of December and will not include any tweets from this new year (a.k.a. this very week) – that piece will be coming out later this week!

With all said, let’s get on with it…

Help Wanted: All Tropes Need Apply

Well, it’s a brand-new year, and for very recent December grads (such as myself), that means it’s that time to start applying for full-time jobs! Here’s a job ad that might go somewhere…

Start here, and you’ll surely be going places! While it doesn’t pay in cold-hard cash, any one of these roles makes up for that in eternal fame, and who can put a price on that?

The Perfect Reply

You know how someone messages you something that catches you off-guard and you’re just not sure how to respond back? Now, if this happens to be in the form of an email, you’d get a few suggested responses, so you have some idea on how to move forward. Well, try this on for size…

Personally, I would’ve said, “Good one! Now, what did you really want to tell me after you just insulted my family’s social standing?”

Do You Ever Feel…?

You never really know how someone feels until you start to feel the same way, but have you ever felt this way…?

If you’ve ever been lonely enough to want to come into someone else’s home at midnight, then you know the feeling…

The Invaluable Gift

Over the past few weeks, I’m sure you have stressed over what to get someone for the holidays. The real stress is in trying to match that person’s gift to you in terms of value, or else one of you will be in the other’s debt. Now, try to imagine how that must’ve felt over a hundred years ago…

Nowadays, there’s nothing like cash or a gift card to really show someone that you care and that you’re not under- or over-buying for them for the holidays! (FYI, this will not be the first time you will see a “Gift of the Magi” tweet in two-part pieces…)

The Routine

Have you ever grown tired of doing the same things every day? Now, onto the receiving end…

Unlike the extreme case of Prometheus though, we all have the power to change up our routines if we feel as though we’re in a rut – or even chained up to a rock – and shouldn’t have to wait for anyone – any god or liver-picking bird – to decide how to live our own lives but ourselves. We may not be able to control everything that happens, but rather how we respond to it, so in response to this tweet, maybe I don’t want to get used to that and I want to change it instead!

Note: Let this be a P.S.A. for how we should out this brand-new year…

Leap Of Faith – Or Death

Picture this: You’re trying to accomplish a task. You’re experiencing some trouble in completing it. What do you do? Do you give up or not? How should you go about it? Here’s one option…

See, if that was your only option, maybe you should rethink your options!

The American Dreamer

You may have known someone in your life who thinks they can do anything better than you can or no amount of arguing can make them change their mind. Perhaps use this as a response…

Actually, maybe not – you should never claim about having done something unless you have the means to back that up, and I don’t think you can come back from doing something like this… (You can’t repeat the past, am I right?!)

The Gift That Keeps on Giving…

Very late on holiday gift-shopping? Maybe keep this gift in mind…

It would be a gift that would stand the test of time, I’ll tell you that much!

I See You, I Feel You

Literature can bring out the best in all of us, including our sense of empathy: whenever we see a character have any sort of experience, we can see ourselves in them and relate to them, helping us relate to others in real life who are going through the same motions we have felt…

It truly is a beautiful thing when we see animals feeling the same things we feel and know when to comfort them in their time of need…

Fickle In Love

I think we can all relate to knowing or being someone who has ever been so head-over-heels in love with someone to only then fall for someone else, forgetting about the first love entirely…

Can you imagine if Romeo had stuck to Rosaline instead of moving on to Juliet? Two among many other things would be vastly different: 1) There would be no star-crossed storyline and they both probably would’ve survived; and 2) the play would be called Romeo & Rosaline – or as their ship name would be, Romaline!

Of Mice And Ignorant Men

Are you bored right now? (Hopefully not from reading this piece!) Then, maybe not do this…

‘Tis the season to be prideful // Fa-la-la-la-la La-la-la-DIE!

The Weird Friend

We all know that weird friend – or maybe you are that weird friend – who does weird things we wouldn’t normally do, things like collecting old bottlecaps, having bird funerals, or doing this…

…but then again, are they really weird or is that just a name we call them to make ourselves feel good about ourselves? The skull may have belonged to a jester, but who is really the fool here? Guess the joke is on us all… Thank you, weird friend, for making us see that.

There’s Muffin Like It!

There is always that one person in your life who doesn’t take things as seriously as you may want them to, emergency or not. Well, I can bet you that that person isn’t tone-deaf enough as to be doing this all the while mayhem is ensuing…

…and so “calmly” too, what a monster!

And in case you need a refresher on where this is from…

That is not what we mean, you nonchalant muffin-eater!

Well, that is it for this half-piece! Hope you enjoyed all those many delicious tweet-treats that have been a long time coming (like my graduation), and stay tuned soon for Part 2…
