Growing up is hard. Luckily we have Mayim Bialik, the super-successful, smart, and hilarious actress from The Big Bang Theory, to guide us. She also played Blossom Russo, a spunky preteen-turned-teen, on Blossom. Her character dealt with a whole set of problems- from divorced parents to difficult brothers (think stereotypical jock and recovering addict). On top of it all, Blossom was a teenage girl. Does anyone remember when Blossom’s father announced to her two brothers the great news that she got her period?
Bialik is more than qualified to write a girl’s guide to growing up. Plus, she has a Ph. D in Neuroscience and specializes in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in adolescents.

Coming in May 2017, Girling Up: How to Be Strong, Smart and Spectacular is not Bialik’s first book. Beyond the Sling, written with pediatrician Jay Gordon, is her guide to parenting and attachment parenting. Her veganism inspired Mayim’s Vegan Table, a cook book with hundreds of vegan recipes. She also has her own website, GrokNation.
Here’s her Instagram post announcing her girl’s guide to growing up- she’s clearly as excited as us about Girling Up!
According to Grok Nation, Girling Up will “speak directly to teens about what it means to grow from a girl to a woman biologically, psychologically, and sociologically.” Bialik also commented: As a scientist who is a public person, it is incredibly gratifying to be able to combine my scientific background with my public face in order to bring Girling Up to young female readers.” She is thrilled to “utilize [her] scientific and neuropsychological perspective on the amazing and complex process of growing up as a female in this culture.”
