Back in good old 2018, New York City was captivated by a mysterious, yet very attractive Mandarin duck that appeared one day in Central Park. Well, we haven’t forgotten the infamous “hot duck”, and neither has Bette Midler, who is teaming up with Michiko Kakutani to write a children’s book about this tantalizing duck. The book, which will be a “modern fable” of sorts, will be called The Tale of the Mandarin Duck.

Bette Midler will be writing the story, which will include photographs from Michiko Kakutani and illustrations by Joanna Avillez. “According to the Publishers Marketplace announcement, the book imagines the duck having ‘the magical effect of rousing onlookers to make personal connections with one another over shared experience, which has never been more valued than in this new world of self-isolation and social distancing’.” The book is set for release February 16, 2021, bringing a much needed smile to all of our faces after a tumultuous 2020!
