The Literary Tarot is bringing together our favorite classic stories and modern storytellers. Brink Literacy Project is the nonprofit organization who put together the campaign on Kickstarter. Each storyteller is bringing their interpretation of the tarot card while welcoming the literary inspiration.

There are five artists who will be using a limited palette while also using foil accents.

According to The Brink Literacy Project’s website, the group works to “foster a love of literature,  increase literacy rates, and use storytelling to empower underserved communities” through community, education, and publishing.

“Books have always been magical portals to other worlds,” Dani Hedlund, CEO of Brink Literacy Project, told The Beat. “In their pages, we unearth countless insights and secrets, inspiration and cautionary tales. Like us, these characters face uncertain futures, Towers rising up in their path or the Wheel of Fortune pushing them toward greater fates.”

Some of the pairings are:

Margaret Atwood is pairing Queen of Light with Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Victor LaValle is pairing The Tower with The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft

Celeste Ng is pairing The Hanged Man with The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot

Lev Grossman is pairing The World with King Arthur

Roxanne Gay is pairing King of Parchment with The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is pairing the Lovers with The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
