Bates Motel Reimagines the ‘Psycho’ Shower Scene

Bates Motel on A&E has taken the horror novel, Psycho by Robert Bloch to a whole new level. Norma (Vera Farmiga) and Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) are brought into the modern world where they commit murders, hide bodies, and try to survive – all while running a motel.

Mother-son bonding at it’s finest…

Norman Bates suffers from schizophrenia. He experiences blackouts and during them, he often harms people. His mother tries to help him cope…as well as hide the bodies. Norman and his mother are a little too close for comfort: Some would call it excessive coddling.

The book was adapted into a movie in 1960 by Alfred Hitchcock and adapted into a TV series in 2013. Besides Norma and Norman, there’s another famous character: Mary or Marion Crane, a patron of the motel. In the book, her head gets chopped off. In the Hitchcock movie, Marion is stabbed in the shower.

In the A&E series, however, a twist occurred that none of us were expecting. Marion, played by singer, Rihanna, hops in the shower…and just as we expect her to be stabbed….voila! She isn’t. Norman actually lets her go!!!! I was shocked. Norman ended up killing Sam, the man who Marion was dating who was also cheating on his wife – in the shower!

Fans on Twitter were surprised…and excited.

How crazy of a twist is that? Marion gets away!
