Oh Barack, is it too early to miss you? It’s times like these we realize how lucky we were to have such a thoughtful and artiuclate guy in the Oval Office.
In an essay for Glamour magazine, Obama details the journey into his own feminism, and what he thinks the responsibilities of largely society are, in moving towards a more gender equal country.

As is the case for many men, Obama’s feminism was largely inspired by the strong women in his own life. He cites his daughters, his wife, and his mother as a constant source of strength. He goes on to praise Western society for making such significant gains in the cause of womens’ rights, but notes that, “there are some changes that have nothing to do with passing new laws.”
Obama makes an appeal to change our cultural mindset to one where it is equally incumbent upon men to challenge stereotypes facing women. “It is absolutely men’s responsibility to fight sexism too. And as spouses and partners and boyfriends, we need to work hard and be deliberate about creating truly equal relationships.”
It’s an inspiring read, and a welcome addition to the feminist conversation!
