It’s time for another bookstagrammer of the week! This week, we are featuring @balancingbookandcoffee. Her bookstagram has a bright vibe and is full of nature- which really makes the colors in her images pop. She mixes in some cool edits to her photos that bring them to life. Why did you start your Bookstagram?
I started my Bookstagram to share some of my favorite books and find other like-minded individuals. I didn’t have any friends that enjoyed the same books I did. Little did I know just how many like-minded folks there were in the world!
Where are you from?
I am from Maryland, USA.
What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?
I really love sharing about books that are truly amazing but don’t get enough love. There are just so many books in the world, and Bookstagram tends to only highlight specific ones. I want to bring love for all those underrated and under-hyped books to the world!
Fun Fact about you:
My other main hobby is rock climbing! I go rock climbing about four times a week. :)
Oh wow! There are so many, but to name a few…
Each of them has such gorgeous pages and are truly wonderful people!
Favorite Books and Authors:
Some of my favorite books are A Darker Shade of Magic, Dark Triumph, A Song of Ice and Fire series, Tower of Dawn, The Hobbit, and A Court of Mist and Fury. Some favorite authors are V.E. Schwab, Sarah J. Maas, Robin Lafevers, Adrienne Young, and George R. R. Martin.
My biggest fictional crush is a bit controversial because he is, for some reason, not a very well-liked character. I love Chaol from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas! Although, Adrian from the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead comes in at a very close second.
The list is vast and endless, but currently at the top of it is The Rage of Dragons, Gideon the Ninth, The Name of the Wind, Vicious, and From Blood & Ash.
What’s Your Special Approach to Content?
I think my special approach is something I mentioned earlier, but I try my best to share under-hyped books or just those books that don’t get enough love on bookstagram. There are just too many books that don’t make their way onto the platform, and I think they deserve to be there! That’s not to say I don’t also post about popular books that I love, but I try to keep a nice balance between the two.
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
My aesthetic has recently changed, but I try to make the books or items that I’m taking a photo of stand out. So I create more of a natural background with wood, greenery, pine cones, candles, etc., so that the main subject in the photo stands out. I really love greenery, my entire house is filled with green plants of all kinds and I like to put that into my photos as well. :)
How often do you post?
I try to post once a day. It’s sometimes hard to have a constant stream of photos for everyday posts, but I try my best! I like to take my photos in large batches so that I can use them for a few weeks before I need to take more.
What does your Bookstagram mean to you?
It means a lot to me. It’s a place where I have made so many friends, and I really just have a blast talking about books. It’s a fun place for me to relax and talk with all the friends I’ve made along the way! It’s a sort of outlet from my day to day responsibilities. I’ve made some of my closest friends on bookstagram; people that I text and call daily, and I feel so blessed to have met them!
I don’t think I actually have a favorite bookstore. I live within walking distance of a Books-A-Million, so that’s where I purchase most of my books. But honestly, I really love all the cute independent bookstores that I’ve had the chance to stumble upon on my travels through Europe. Thinking back, I should have taken pictures of them for my page! I wish there were some of those where I live, but we only have the bigger bookstore chains.
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?
Can I choose a bookstore? Haha… that way I can get any book I want from any publisher!
Author to take a selfie with:
Probably V.E. Schwab or Adrienne Young!
Favorite book cover:
Currently, it’s Fable by Adrienne Young. Obsessed with that cover!! And I absolutely love how the cover of the next book is the other side of her face! How gorgeous!
Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:
I’ve never done that on bookstagram but did do that when I was in high school. I remember we had to read The Odyssey and I just thought it was the most boring book, so I didn’t read it but instead looked up a lot of notes on it. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s done that in school….
When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer?
I wouldn’t say I’ve actually made it as a bookstagrammer. I am still learning new things every day! But I am so very thankful for all those who follow me and read my ramblings about books! I appreciate each and every one of them! It honestly makes my day when someone asks me for book recommendations or tells me how much they love my page.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Throne of Glass, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter are my top favorite fandoms and the ones I know the most about. I feel like they are pretty cliche favorites, but there is a reason why so many people love them… They are amazing! :)
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Post the content that you want and that you love! Be yourself and ultimately have fun because, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about! Doing something that makes you happy.
Random… but I am also really obsessed with vikings and norse mythology. I have some viking cosplays I’ve put together recently and can’t wait to take photos in them! I probably know more about norse mythology than anything else… major viking nerd here, LOL.
