Sally Rooney, author of Normal People and Conversations With Friends, will be releasing a new novel in the fall of 2021. Hollywood Reporter announced that Rooney’s third book Beautiful World, Where Are You will be coming out in September of this year.
This new book follows Alice, a novelist who asks a warehouse worker named Felix to travel to Rome with her. Though Felix and Alice provide their own narrative points of view, they are only two of the four in this story: Alice’s friend Eileen, and Eileen’s childhood friend Simon also act as points of view within the story. Ultimately, these four characters are put into positions where they have to “navigate being young adults amid trying times.”
Goodreads provides the following description for Rooney’s new book:
Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a distribution warehouse, and asks him if he’d like to travel to Rome with her. In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up, and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood. Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young-but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?
Rooney’s novel Normal People was adapted by Hulu, and Conversations With Friends is also set to be adapted for television as well.
While we wait for this new book to be released, we can definitely check out Rooney’s other books and the series that were inspired by her work!
