If you said “vol-de-mort,” we have some bad news for you. It turns out that you should have been saying “vol-de-mor” all along.

The revelation comes courtesy of J.K. Rowling, who tweeted yesterday that Voldemort’s name should be pronounced the French way, with the final “t” being silent. It started with a tweet from a fan in South Carolina:

What? Since when? Most fans have never heard this little bit of trivia (ourselves included), but it turns out that Mr. Lucero is right:

Apparently Voldemort’s name has rhymed with “more” and not “sort” all along. Perhaps J.K. Rowling should have told the filmmakers that before they made eight movies pronouncing it the wrong way!

This is just the latest in a series of Harry Potter revelations that J.K. Rowling has dished out on Twitter. Earlier this month she revealed that Hagrid can’t cast a Patronus. If you’re a Harry Potter fan and you’re not following Rowling on Twitter, you’re missing out!
