According to the Hollywood Reporter, Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast in the lead role for Emma. The new adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel is being produced by Working Title. Music video director Autumn de Wilde will be making her feature directorial debut, and the script is being written by Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton.

Taylor-Joy has already proven to be very capable of tackling period pieces after starring in The Witch and The Miniaturist mini-series. But given that both projects were a little bleak, it should be a nice change of pace to see Taylor-Joy involved in a comedic feature.
Austen’s classic follows young Emma Woodhouse, who innocently meddles in people’s romantic affairs while trying to play matchmaker.

Along with a new adaptation of Emma, Clueless, the 1995 film based on the novel, will also be getting the remake treatment. The script will be written by the writers of GLOW and Girls Trip.
We’ll be seeing a lot of love for Jane Austen on the silver screen.
