John Carney (Once, Sing Street) will serve as executive producer, writer, and direct a number of episodes as well.
“It’s like I woke up in the actor candy store,” Carney said. “We’ve managed to assemble a dream cast of my favorite actors. It’s a testament to the reach of the original column and of how, now more than ever, love is the only certainty.”
Editor Daniel Jones began the Modern Love column with the intention of interpreting love as broadly as possible. He also mentioned that some of his favorite submissions weren’t about couples at all. Jones explains, “Some of the most moving stories to me are about family bonds and parenthood, those blood bonds that often are more complicated than romance.”
Throughout the eight standalone episodes, the series will explore various forms of love including romantic, familial, platonic, and self love.
