Fans of Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” series won’t be heading to theaters to see how the adaptation ends. Though the final book in the trilogy was originally going to be split up into two films, the poor box office performance of “Allegiant Part 1” made Lionsgate pass on a second film.
Instead, Starz is in the process of developing the TV Series “Ascendant,” in place of would have been the last film in the “Divergent” series.

As of now it is unclear if “Ascendant” will be wrapping up the storylines portrayed in “Allegiant,” or if the series will start from a blank slate and re-create the Divergent series with new actors, characters, and storylines.
What we do know is that Adam Cozad is slated to be a writer/executive producer for the series alongside director/executive producer Lee Toland Krieger. It is unclear is “Divergent” author Veronica Roth will be involved.
While we mourn the possibility of the final theatrical release, we can only wait patiently for more details and see whether or not Starz will do “Divergent” justice.
