If you’re a millennial, it’s pretty likely you’re familiar with the American Girl brand. For our generation, the American Girl dolls were beloved collectibles and great reads. Personally, I loved Addy, Josefina, and Kaya. I received a couple of the dolls for Christmases and poured over the books that reflected the doll’s stories. There was something special about the American Girl stories. They brought history and fiction together, showcased strong, fierce female leads, and created a relatable world for young people.
This year, one of the original American Girls, Felicity is making a comeback. The Revolutionary War-era doll will be re-released as the BeForever Doll of 2017. The BeForever dolls are the re-marketing of the historical characters from American Girl. The company also announced that 5 new characters have been added, including American Girl of 2017, Gabriela, the poetry writer, and the company’s first boy doll, Logan.
According to Bustle,
The world first met Felicity in 1986, with the publication of Meet Felicity by Valerie Tripp. Meet Felicity was followed by five more books — the American Girl-standard school, Christmas, spring, summer, and winter stories — as well as three mystery titles and a short-story collection. Felicity’s best friend, Elizabeth Cole, got her own book in 2005, just ahead of the release of Felicity: An American Girl Adventure, which starred Shailene Woodley in the title role.
This year, Felicity has a new ‘choose your own adventure’ book written by Kathleen Ernst, titled, Tea Cakes: My Journey with Felicity.
