Recently, you may have been hearing a lot of buzz about Naomi Alderman’s most recent book The Power, which was published earlier this year. However, it is Alderman’s debut novel Disobedience that is in the limelight this week and is hitting the silver screen this weekend.
The story follows Ronit Krushka, a thirty-two year old woman living in New York City after abandoning her life in the Orthodox Jewish community in London that she grew up in. However, after her father, the preeminent rabbi in the community, dies, she returns home. There she reconnects with Dovid, her cousin and her father’s likely successor, but she discovers that Dovid is married to Esti, her forbidden childhood sweetheart. Suddenly, Ronit finds herself entangled in a love triangle that makes her question what she left behind.
