3 YA Fiction Twitter Accounts That Parody The Genre Perfectly

We all know him, Brooding YA Hero, and his friend, Typical YA Heroine. They live in a Dystopian YA Novel world in which they are the Chosen Ones, despite only being sixteen. What you may not know, however, is that they have their own Twitter accounts!

These accounts seamlessly parody the tropes of YA, from ‘knitted eyebrows’ to being ‘the chosen one’ to smoothing one’s grey tunic to look presentable before the Overseer. They’ll have you laughing, cringing, and getting ready for the Great Battle in The Outlands…

Let’s start with Brooding YA Hero. His bio reads: “Making Bad Life Choices, Looking Hot, Shedding Manly Tears.” He’s handsome, sensitive, and, of course, inherently problematic. He actually has his own book out now, entitled ‘Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me.‘ As if he needed an ego boost… (okay it’s not actually written by him, it’s by his creator Carrie DiRisio.)

While Brooding YA Hero is busy gazing out over stormy oceans, his counterpart, Typical YA Heroine, is also taking part in a number of YA activities…

So now we’re familiar with the inhabitants of the YA world, why don’t we take a look at what’s going on in the Dystopian YA Novel? Written from the point of view of a generic YA protagonist Valerie Neverwoods, these snippets are just too on-point…

There are thousands more tweets where these came from, and we highly recommend taking a look at them before The Great Battle ensues, and we lose access to the Web forever…
